Based on the life of Jelly Roll Morton, the musical takes the audience on a self-reflective journey that tells the story of his life, his music, and his legacy.  Jelly and the Chimney Man relive Jell’y’s successes of learning jazz on the streets of New Orleans, to playing small clubs and large dance halls in Chicago, and to the lows of being unable to book clubs in New York City.  All while he struggles to come to terms with his own identity of being a creole mulit-racial man.

In designging this set we wanted it to feel like an theatre that Jelly would have performed in. With the Chimney Man being a more magical character who is able to magically transform the stage, allowing Jelly to step back in time to different moment of his life.
